What is your experience with training your neck in addition to mewing? (I believe thicker neck often makes for a much better look.( for a guy at least))
-I recently started mewing and thought about keeping doing it while training those wrestling drills/ neck strengthening routines.
-Alternatively I keep chewing mastic gum and pressing it on top of the mouth while training drills as well.
As a result my whole face burns like hell after this routine.
On the other hand it seems that the temporalis muscle swells up significantly.
What are your thoughts?
The first thing I would pay attention to in your neck is releasing tension in it. Often people do not hold their head straight on their neck and have developed a forward neck position to open their constricted airway. From these and otherwise tension develops in the neck muscles. Releasing these and holding the head in proper balance goes a long way to enabling you to develop proper oral posture. Also there appears, in my view, to be a connection such that tension in the neck can prevent expansion in the jaw. Stretching exercises and strengthening exercises for the weak muscles that correspond to the tight muscles that you need to stretch will work to some extent, but for muscles like the scalenes you will need to get in there with your hands or pay someone else to. For these I used massage akin to Rolfing. They are difficult to follow, often very tight and painful to release.
I would do all of this before bulking up the neck so as to avoid entrenching imbalances and giving yourself more to work through.
I am using this daily routine from Jeremy Ethier for releasing the neck and strengthening it, I think it is absolutely awesome for stuff like mewing and such. Plus, I think it definitely works and for me it’s done wonders in barely three months.
