Bad News? Mike Mew and Bill Hang: "Prevention is the only way"

At the start of the discussion, they both assert that prevention is the only way, indicating that you can't treat older people. I am confused. I though M. Mews position was that change always is possible, albeit age affects the efficiency of the process. Is this the nail in the coffin for adult mewers? Are face pulling and appliances our only hope now? Or am I missing something?

I believe that in the interview they are addressing that prevention is the only way a person can reach their genetic potential for ideal skull development. I think they see that the mewing community is mainly based around adults and teenagers wanting to improve theirselves (which is brilliant). However there doesn't seem to be much of a community that are working on getting the information out so we can prevent CFD in our future generations. Which is much more important than adults trying to improve.

Nothing is a strong word yes, i wouldn't have used it but i totally understand him because these guys strive for perfection pretty much and most likely are hard on themselves, that's why they're so fkin good.

And i think Dr Bill is right.

After the damage is done(growing up with an underdeveloped airway), only way you get better is by prevention treatment(ALF, MSE etc) and by establishing good habits. That's why he talked about IQ, they're talking about genetic potential and that's the whole videos premisse.

There is nothing they can do WITH orthotropics, which is developed for kids, that can undue vertical growth on a teenager/adult or make you reach your genetic potential. I Think that that's what he means.

Even tho they obtain good enough results in teenagers and adults, the damage is there and will always be there.

Expanding the arches and achieving a better thn before airway and sleep IS AWSOME, dont get me wrong, but if your maxilla is sloped downwards, it will always be that way.

Achieving a surgery free CCW rotation is pretty much the orthodontics novel.

Do you think CCW rotation of the maxilla in adults will ever be possible non surgical by inventing an undiscovered appliance that we may await in the future?

Question for OP: do you think the pics that have been popping up on reddit are legit? helmut's case comes to mind, among others. Progress is another.

Having seen those, a lot of my initial doubt about mewing working is gone. I think an adult can probably get there in as little as a few years, with effort.

I dont think Mike Mews knows what can be archieved in adults, we are a much bigger community than the amount of adults he treated.

I think  he always focused on children and only recently adults

My advice to the worriers:

Pay attention to your body. So many of us have noticed undeniable signs that adult progress is happening to us - listen to those messages. And if a little adult progress is possible, then a lot is also possible. It just takes work. It's not like bone remodeling caps out at 3mm.

Even if it's anecdotal, trust yourself. Tune out all the people that insist "mewing is cope once you're adult" etc.

As for this video, I think they are saying that prevention is the "only way" to fix the CFD problem at large. For the determined adults that want to take their life and their health back, this forum has already proven that it can be done.

They're talking about IQ preservation.

You can manipulate your face all day long through all sorts of ways.  The thing is... when you fix your face, you can maybe help to breathe better and not hurt your brain...but if you don't get the good oxygen needed through a smaller airway...then your brain is forked.  You can easily contort your face...but not your brain.  If your face is inhibiting learning/breathing/good quality sleep... yes...losing IQ is what happens.  This is very costly.  Brains don't just automagically resolve.  And truthfully... way more than IQ... your social interactions, so many things depend on your sleep and your face can mess that up.

The U.S. government would be wise to invest in women being home with their babies.  Some countries allow 2 years paid for.  This is wise.  Those kids are amazingly contributing.  Breastfeeding is important, but if you're taxed so much like women are when working with a new baby... it just makes no sense.  We lose how many BILLIONS on obstructive sleep apnea's lost productivity.  This isn't even scratching the surface of sleep disordered breathing.  IT IS A JOKE HAVING THESE OLD RICH FOLK IN CONGRESS TAXING WOMEN THE YEAR OR TWO AFTER HAVING A BABY!  They say... where's the money going to come from.  UHHHH>>>>HELLO!!!????  ANYONE HOME????!!!!  NOT.  SO UNTIL WE CAN GET MINORITIES BREASTFEEDING AND POOR BREASTFEEDING, they will be SOL....generation after generation after generation.  AND SUNSHINE.  If we really, truly cared about school shooting, we'd let kids be outside during school instead of forcing them indoors where vitamin D just doesn't exist.  The problem is not the video games... it's being indoors with bad posture.  IF THE GOVERNMENT WERE SMART, THEY'D FIX THESE PROBLEMS!!!!  SEND THIS VIDEO TO ALL YOUR GOVERNMENT BODIES WHO SAY WE CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE MATERNAL LEAVE AND TELL THEM WE CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO!  WHEN THEY ASK WHERE THE MONEY WILL COME FROM>>>> INCREASED INCOME TAXES AND DECREASED PROGRAMS.

Maybe yeah.

Medically speaking, many things that were considered to be impossible in the past are now being achieved. Doesn't mean it will happen but statistically speaking it's very possible..humans have been defying biology alot, especially these last decades. It wouldn't be just a 'special appliance' tho. For these kind of changes it would be all sorts of different hormonal manipulations, appliances and what not.

I mentioned the 'natural' CCW rotation because it's what would yield the biggest positive changes in a recessed adult. But achieving a 'natural' CCW rotation in an adult kinda means changing the shape of your whole skull with literal bone growth to accommodate that change. It's a novel. Shts almost sci-fi lol

So is adult mewing just expanding the pallete?

I have seen their progress. Progress progress is promising. And Helmuts, assuming it all came just from mewing, is simply amazing. But there still is no clear answer what is achievable in adulthood, in general. So I guess hearing Hangs and Mews statement made me unsure. But as others here have pointed out, they may have just been talking about reaching ones full genetic potential.

May I ask if you have seen any progress yourself? Or do you get your hope from others reports?

Cheers

i think one can see minor improvements in a very long time as an adult with mewing but curing malocclusion and fixing weak profiles is probably not possible. You can still see health benefits from mewing though like improved posture and airways

Vivos’ DNA....LVI’s controlled arch braces.  Reg braces by ortho with notable counter-clockwise presentation in their own jaws.  I did it by Mewing..but my bones are easily manipulated.  Whatever you do you’ll need to preserve good airway all paths!  It is easy to push maxilla too high...but how to get it down?

"Vivos’ DNA....LVI’s controlled arch braces."

I didn't know DNA caused CWW rotation or the possibility of. I thought it just expanded sagittaly and transversally.

From others. I started a little while ago. I plan to report here around the 1-year mark, which would be next spring.

i've seen zero results and i've been no pillow, no mattress, posterior third up, chin tucking etc etc for a year and a half

compared my profile in the exact same conditions and it's done nothing.

no gonial angle change, no cheek projection, nothing. Only thing it's done is maybe expand my palate a mm or two and make my lips more projected

it's a total waste of time if you ask me. i actually think the clear submental looks worse if your gonial is too high. almost alien

I'm in the exactly same position as you. Over a year of mewing and no results whatsoever. I am starting to believe MSE and AGGA appliances are the only way to see reasonable results as adults

Can you tell me more about your (respective) case(s)? Null results are as important as positive results and it would be helpful to know what did and didn't work. Perhaps you each could start a thread. There is no reason that we should fall prey to "publication bias" (so to speak) on this forum, with only the positive results getting attention.

In particular I would like to know: did you chin tuck while applying pressure? Did you apply pressure at all times? Was it mainly a suction hold? How is your head posture presently? And feel free to anything else you might consider to be relevant.

I want to really emphasize that this kind of information will add value to the community, as all data is useful data when you have so little. We are a rather small group trying to tackle a big problem. Let's compare notes!

i didn't have any problems with suction hold and raising the posterior third of the tongue due to having a naturally correct swallow. My body posture is good, neck posture could be a bit better. I was hoping to get some facial upswing aka skeletal change which seems too optimistic . Maybe 1 year is not enough to see skeletal changes? or mewing only affects the muscle and soft tissue in adults

Did you chew gum as well @Slinky ? Also, how old are you if you don´t mind sharing? Do you have a vaulted or flat palate?

As an adult I believe hardmewing is the only way, at the very least initially as you need to build up your tongue strength quite alot especially if you have had bad tongue posture beforehand.

Personal I've seen more progress in the last few months than the year before as I believe my tongue was not nearly strong enough before. I could push as hard as I want for an hour and feel less effect than half trying for like 10minutes today, work on your strength as it is critical for good results

Forward neck posture can restrict proper tongue force.

I agree. To me, in order to be able to mew while sleeping or do passive mewing, one must mew hard first for a while before one can mew passively and while sleeping, one must force their tongue to stay where is supposed to stay, this goes for young/old people. I don't need to mew hard anymore but i still do it as an exercise and to get high, actually mewing is the only thing i do to get high these days, although I've never been even close to be a pothead, i don't need to smoke weed anymore, I feel really good just from mewing hard to get high, believe it or not.

P.S. I started mewing On March 11 2018. I will post pics on my 18 moth exactly, I'll be almost 55...

I honestly got into mewing because I used to snore badly, and along the way realized that mewing goes beyond having a "nice looking face". I've always been happy with the face I have =_=. Have my face changed?, you guys be the judges when I post the pics. But honestly if you guys don't notice changes is all good, again, mewing goes beyond having a nice looking face.

P.S. By the way, check out The Buteyko Breathing and the benefits of holding one breath....thank me later =_= .
