Causes of gaining a more acute sense of smell?

So I’ve noticed lately that things smell more strongly than they did before I started mewing. I was also able to “smell” the spring when it came around a few weeks ago, something I haven’t been been able to before. I feel like my sense of smell is just becoming more and more acute as of late.

Could this be a sign that the upper dental arch is widening, or are there other more likely causes for this? Have any of you noticed something similar? I was mostly a mouth breather before, but I always had a sense of smell.

I never noticed it but yes, it could be. As your palate widens so does your nasal passages. You mentioned you were a mouth breather, have you fully moved to nasal breathing?

Would having the maxilla move forward and upward impact the sense of smell too? Its subtle, I wasn’t sure if it was placebo or not to begin with, but it was not an effect that I was expecting. I study in a different city, but when I came home for easter I felt taller, and it turned out I had in fact grown half an inch. I feel like theres something different with my sense of smell and I don’t think my senses are deceiving me.

I definitely breathe nasally all day. I tape my mouth at night with 3mm micropore tape but I find it hard to tell if I breathe nasally all night or not, as its possible to breathe through the tape with your mouth. I usually get some mucus build up throughout the night which is not something that happens during the day, so I think I mouth breathe unfortunately when I enter deep sleep. Not really sure if theres anything else I can do except mouth tape to support nasal breathing at night?

Cool! Taller from better airway at night. Do you want to be taller or is it bothersome?

Also… smell increases with forward movement and widening of maxilla. Risk factor for obesity…but that is for over life.

@darkindigo Wouldn’t you say its more likely that the increase in height is from fixing posture (stretching out the spine)?

And yes I love the extra height! Im currently a little over 6ft and hoping to get to 6ft 1.5 inches.

gaining height from nose breathing at night will be very weird because i use to breath full time through my mouth at night and i am ft 6,2 (1,88m) its has more to do with gentics + nutrition we in the Netherlands eat and drink a lot of bread and milk and cheese
