Can you keep your tongue against the roof of your mouth with clear aligners?

I'm worried that the etches are sharp and will cause irritation. What's your experience? 

Also, in case it does, I imagine it's impossible to apply orthodontic wax and have it stick. Anyone tried it?

itll probably stop expansion cause there there to keep the teeth in place

Actually clear aligners can be used to expand the dental arch. See:

But yeah, the force of the tongue on the teeth will be minor compared to the force of the aligners I think. It's still useful though to stimulate the upper palate I guess. But if it's impossible, I could choose to wait with the tongue stuff till after treatment.
