Ok guys so I have been using a y-plate for two weeks now doing semi-rapid expansion 2mm sideways and 1/2 mm forward so far. Moving 1/8th mm a day sidways a day and 1/8 th forwards twice a week. Should I keep going semi-rapid or slow down for the last 5mm or so? Not much pain in teeth, mainly palate. Have kept occlusion so far, wisdom teeth have started to erupt. Keeping it in 22 hours a day taking it out to eat, bush teeth, then doing facing pulling before putting it back in. Will my lower Jaw keep up with this semi-rapid expansion? Any ideas for lower Jaw besides thumb pulling? What about a d.iy. trombone device?

Come on guys, who’s got some advice? If we let this forum die then then the main stream Orthodontists win. Long live John and Mike Mew!

I’ll be working on “reviving” the forum very soon. There’s just some technical issues I am trying to get sorted out, because the site has been periodically breaking. There is also less traffic to the case discussion subforums, so people have been posting to the main forum to get traction. We’ll try to fix that.

This forum died when @eddiemoney and @abdulrahman went absent. As for your question @MIKETV I don’t have any personal experience with expansion other than the tongue but my guess would be that the mandible would struggle to keep up without any expander in place because there is no suture in an adult mandible or any force to widen it. A trombone appliance expands the mandible from what I have heard.
