1 year progress (age 21 to 22)

Reddit user: https://www.reddit.com/user/helmutstrebl/

Go to https://www.reddit.com/r/orthotropics/comments/awfvdh/here_is_my_1_year_mewing_progress_from_age_21_to/ to see the comments and visit his original post.

"Here is my 1 year mewing progress from age 21 to 22. I had very positive effects from mewing but a negative one too that I didn’t wanted.

General info:

Positive things i have noticed from Mewing :

  • More prominent brow ridge (I also practice NoFap maybe that helped too)
  • Hooded Eyes
  • My nose got thinner from the front and straighter from the side. Also my nostrils were very uneven but now they are almost symmetrical.
  • Stronger Chin

Negative things that I noticed :

  • Front teeth tilted outwards
  • Literally nothing else

-Mew 24/7 and focus on keeping the back of the tongue up more than the front. -extreme chin tuck. (I walk with double chin in my room for 1-2 hours everyday) -Chewing hard gum for 15-20 minutes every other day. -Also focus on your posture try to keep your glutes and lower abs tight when you’re standing.

Edit : I also hard mew when ever i am alone so that’s like around 2 hours of hard mewing maybe a bit more.

Here's a gif in regards to his change:

I'd highly recommend checking out the replies on his thread as he goes a bit more in depth there and it be too much to all write down here (along with it probably still increasing in replies).

Very promising stuff!

His 1,8 year update: https://www.reddit.com/r/orthotropics/comments/bwqsq1/this_is_my_18_years_of_mewing_progress_left_pic/

This time also added with a front comparison from one of the reply chains: https://imgur.com/a/Y0Y6RZ2

And a video as proof that yes, this is real:

https://imgur.com/a/UXBMl1o

General info:

What i did : • Hard mewing 24/7. I push upwards so hard that the area under my jaw (hyoid) starts burning. Sometimes its difficult to fall asleep for me as i’m mewing so hard. • Proper lip seal. I keep my lips closed with a slight force. • Proper swallowing (watch mike mew’s video on this) • Gum chewing 20-30 minutes everyday. • Chin tucks all the time when i’m alone. • I also work at my body posture and try to stay in good posture while standing and sitting.

Once again, you should check out the reddit thread for more info with his replies and such.

Simply astonishing change.

I'm going to assume that this is all correct so might as well add.

1 year ago, I was taking notes of @helmutstrebl recommendations and his replies to certain questions, this is what I wrote: (You may want to add this to the post @community-lurker)

1. Mew 24/7 (Hard) + (Upward) + (Push evenly) + (Most force on the middle and back third)... Hyoid bone start Burning.

2. Extreme chin tuck (as much as you can) (2-3 hours)... To the point where it stops me from breathing + my arms get numb

3. Gum chewing with cold water 20-30 minutes... Don't chew too much

4. Proper lip seal

5. Proper Swallowing... Try to keep molars together

6. Posture

7. Sleep on back on bed without a pillow..."I am not sure if I am mewing or not while sleeping, but I am sure I breath through my nose and mouth is closed"

8. Trouble breathing when chin tuck + hard mewing

* Don't use the muscle under chin

* You should feel tightness in your masseter muscle

* Molars are in contact for growth of mandible and maxilla both

* Chin tuck...Try to flatten your neck against the wall

* Don't forget to do moderate mewing while sleeping

UPDATE (Late march 2020)

Age: 24

Chewing: Hard gum for 30 minutes every night and soft gum for 1.5-2 hours mostly while working out in the gym

"I added thumb pulling , bone smashing and increased my chewing duration. Now i chew soft gum for 1.5-2 hours usually while working out in the gym and hard gum for 30 minutes"
"i chew way more now"

Bonesmashing: 1-2 minutes every hour, 3x a week 5 min. on each zygo 5 min. on chin (hard af) (conflicting timeframes...). Bonesmashed for around 6 months

Doesn't do bonesmashing anymore and hasn't done so for 2+ months

I asked him about any gains lost (in regards to bonesmashing since if i recall correctly i've heard here and there that the results of it don't (always) stay) and he replied short and sweet with a: "Nope."

Mewing:
"I’m still doing hard mewing and chin tucking although i don’t chin tuck that much maybe 30-60 minutes max"

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I'm convinced lately that getting that nice jawline has everything to do with the swallow. I'm really focusing lately on generating a swallow from the throat area, the kind of swallow that is created by the very very cheesy swallow, the one where Dr. Mew lifts up his eyebrows and looks like a psycho. Haha. Seems like not too many people pay attention that exercise, but learning how to do this type of swallow with my mouth closed, has really helped to get even more of the back of my tongue up. And the guy in the picture said that getting the back of his tongue up was one of his main focuses. That in combination with his focus on the McKenzie Chin tuck and overall body posture, is key I believe.

Can someone align the ears to see if this is true? Don't doubt it is. Brow ridge gains mainly came from chewing I might add. I know that chewing over time adds to brow thickness.

Hi! I

I always align the ears first  beacuse , being complex, they help to adjust the size of the pictures

and then I use the forehead because i believe, unlike the ears, it is impossible to change its size and position by mewing

You can see that the light on his zygo is dimming. By this, you can tell that his face got wider and flatter/more concave (good) preventing the light coming from the front to dissipate along the sides

The gif on reddit is very very random

But the brow muscle and bone can be affected by chewing even if not mewing. So there can be change in the forehead, too

I don't think it's hard. Lots of middle aged and seniors develop this type of heavy brow in their later years. Men and women.

Heck some women's mandibles seem to grow forever.

Just looking at the reddit thread, this guy has a very good understanding of how people should be mewing and training. I'm impressed.

It staggers me how only the barest couple of mm in change can make you go from boyish to manly. What staggers me even more is how incredibly attuned we are to noticing these differences in peoples faces. We are unbelievably sensitive to these disparities despite them being so small.

Is it possible that the change could be only in the muscles under the chin giving his lower jaw a new resting position? Or do you think there was skeletal change?

there is absolutely skeletal change. it's not even contestable. look at the anchor point in the animation i.e his ears.

his forehead has come forward, brow has come forward making the eyes appear more recessed and hooded (good thing), lower face i.e jaw and chin has come forward, the jaw especially is way more prominent, nose slightly straighter, maxilla is forward and up a bit.

His growth is excellent but I think his results are due to superior genetics to begin with. He was already very good looking and had great forward growth as can be seen from the angle/shape of his nose and cheekbones. I am truly envious of his results. Here is a link to my results from the past 2 years of mewing as I really need advice right now

OMG! You can even notice he lifts the back of the tongue so up that his Adam's nut isn't even visible! That's really impressive, especially since he admitted that he is not capable of choking himself by lifting the tongue.

I'm not convinced by those photos tbh - is it 100% clear that he has exactly the same head posture in both photos? I think that when you match up skull landmarks in two photos so that they're identical, yet the body (shoulders, chest etc) changes so dramatically between each shot, then it's not clear that the head position is the same. Look at how much his body size changes between the two photos. A little attributable to different clothing, for sure. But not all.

Also, he seems to have more mustache in the after photo - that would contribute to his philtrum area looking more forward.

Look at how much the back of his head changes between the photos. They're in entirely different positions. Some of it attributable to different hair, but again, not all. This again makes me wonder how valid these photos are in terms of pose and posture.

None of these before/after photos show the state of the bite. Is he jutting his mandible in the after photo? If he's jutting just a little, and also engaging his mentalis with proper tongue posture, then it would contribute massively to the before/after difference in his mandible. The act of pushing the back of the tongue up alone would lift and tighten the skin under his mandible in the same way.

What makes me most skeptical of all, however, is that I can produce similar differences in profile myself with just minor adjustments to posture, mandible position etc. And lighting is absolutely crucial too. He's in slightly different positions relative to the room's light in each photo. Note how his eyes are more in shadow in the after photo. Does this create the illusion that his eyes have become more deep set? And as for his hooded eyes claim - I don't see any more hooding in the after photo. It just looks like there's less upper lid exposure because the light isn't catching it like in the before photo.

Unfortunately, we're never going to see any conclusive evidence that mewing is capable of these kinds of skeletal changes until someone measures it scientifically. And that's going to mean ceph traces, among other things.

@alphaminus I disagree that this isn't good evidence at least that something he did, mewing or chewing, had a profound effect on his facial structure. Look at the mass of his chin. No amount of jutting increases muscle and bone mass like that. His chin isn't just better aligned, it's clearly much bigger than before. Now, if someone debunked this and said that he got an implant, I would accept that. But saying that he's just adjusting his posture? There's simply no way.

You're making judgments about the size of someone's chin from two photos in which the chin is covered by beard (is it exactly the same amount of beard in both photos? Impossible to tell, and just a few days extra beard growth can cause a noticeable difference in the size of the chin) and in which he possibly has different head posture. Also, looking at the animation, it would appear that he's standing closer to the camera in the after photo (and he's certainly standing in different positions relative to the light). These, among other things, make the photos very misleading and problematic as a before/after comparison. Proximity to the lens, for example, can absolutely distort dimensions depending on the kind of lens used.  I think people get a little carried away with the idea of matching a landmark in two photos - in this case, great care has been taken to make sure that the ears match exactly in both photos. But this does not mean that everything else is in exactly the same position relative to each other.

Sadly, in the absence of any formal scientific studies, I think all we're ever going to see is rough guesswork like this, and there are so many factors which make these photos almost useless as a gauge.

@darkindigo Your maxilla did not retrude as a result of proper posture. The other changes you described are desirable for both sexes.

The maxilla retrudes when you reposition the tongue to the back of the top part of the mouth... so actually it does because of so-called "proper" tongue position.  The widening that occurs on the maxilla is accompanied by a recession of the front teeth..  So... basically, yes, that is what happened.  You can see the effects of widening the back portion of the jaw in the results found here: https://www.beyondyoursmile.net/gallery   Nearly all the maxillas retruded.  The teeth are the teeth.  You can shape them however... but if you keep your tongue forward then that helps to keep your maxilla forward.  If you tuck your tongue back away from the front teeth, then the tongue/lip balance is disrupted and the maxilla retrudes.  Anyway, it's both entirely complex and quite simple, really.  🙂  Dr. John Mew also has a video on deep bite.  This will explain better, since I know that many who do "Mewing" think it will help them and it won't.  Everyone must be individually treated.

@pame, to further explain, you must see where you bite is naturally and where it is (how teeth fit together) with a more chin tucked, upright position.  What ends up happening is that the natural position of the teeth is offset.  This causes the front teeth to be pushed back while the bottom teeth move forward.  It's the same concept behind every mandibular advancing system.  Dr. Mew has always been so enamored with tongue positioning and the posterior region of the palate.  The thing is... positioning isn't as important as swallow pattern.  Also, the way to move the maxilla forward from what I can tell is to do what that guy on YouTube (who used to be on the-great-work.org) did... that Maverick guy.  He did get maxillary advancement... though I am quite concerned about the level of nonsense out there... especially by him.

Also worth mentioning that he says he walks around his house in an extreme chin tuck (using fingers to tuck chin maximally) for 2 hours a day. Seems like chin tucks are quite essential for good results.

I'm a strong believer in mewing, hard mewing, and chin tucking. But honestly... I think this guy got an implant. This is just too extreme and his most recent post is just too close chronologically to have THAT much difference. There's something going on her that he's just not telling us. If his pictures are real than mewing is literally the Holy Grail and genetics aren't even meta anymore.

@ohwhatthehell the guy says he's 20 I believe so puberty can still be a factor.

But aside from that, we know mewing can correct a lot of problems, like sleep apnea, etc.  The Holy Grail isn't mewing, it's discipline.  If what he says about his routine is correct (extreme chin tucking for hours a day), it's his commitment that's the X factor.  I doubt many out there are willing to put in the kind of effort he has, which is probably why results like this are so rare.  That and a lot of people simply probably aren't doing it correctly (ie. proper posture).

... either that or he really did get chin implants and is fooling everyone.

Guys, just consider what process brings the chin out like that.

Did the jaw move forward bringing with it the chin forward? That's not possible because the lips did not change position.

Did the lower teeth move backward? That's also not possible because there isn't enough space in anyone's jaws for that to happen, mind you that lower teeth hardly nudge backward.

Did it grow on its own outward? If so how does so called "hard mewing" make the chin grow like that? It looks as if a bone tumor grew there expanding his chin in such pretty shape.

None of this is possible.

The first time I saw this guy's progress pictures I thought: questionable but maybe possible. Now I can say that whatever progress he made with his forward head posture, facial muscles, etc he has added upon it some cosmetic procedures and is presenting it as "hard mewing", which is not surprising.

Since Mike Mew released his video depicting Kyle Jenner wider mid face as a result of tongue posturing this was to be expected. Every person who had a cosmetic procedure received a warm invitation to use "mewing" as a cover up.

Previously, they used to say they "bloomed". Now they can just say they "mewed".

I mean couldn't it be possible that extreme effort and dedication can lead to changes far greater than what was previously believed to be possible with mewing? With the new chewing study we now know for a fact that applying stress to bones will produce skeletal change in adults.

Look at this surgery outcome, the whole face is transformed. This is from a leading maxillofacial surgeon. Wanna guess what was done? Segmental Le fort 1 with CCW, BSSO, Genoplasty, cheek and malar onlay augmentation, jaw implants, soft tissue augmentation, facelift, and make up.

Yea, he doesn't looks bad in the before, I suppose you can say he had a decent foundation to start with, but also photography can play a role. In the before his face is really close to the camera which narrows his face and enlarges his nose. The camera is also higher which makes the upper part of his face look bigger in relation to the lower.

Those are common techniques photographers use to provide the best picture for their client's facial anatomy. Regardless, his face has undoubtedly changed and most likely with more than one procedure.

He would need to get an x-ray, preferably CBCT, by an independent and verified orthodontist who is open to exploring his case. If he is in the States, someone like Bill Hang, if he agrees, would be a good choice because he is familiar with the concept of mewing.

Speaking of which, why don't you guys as a forum forward this to Sugr2 for his opinion. He obviously believes in remolding and will be able to tell you what is and is not possible.

I have seen changes like that to the lower third with filler before and afters, too.

As for the chin, there are exercises that work the mentalis muscle, but I only know to what extent that has changed the appearance of my chin when looking at my profile. It does appear like it could be a chin implant, and the lack of change to the position of the lips (though it's hard to say what's going on there because of the beard) seems odd and something that I wouldn't expect to happen with the mandible seemingly moving forward like that and when using techniques like face pulling or maybe even mewing.

To me, the users admission that he uses prescription vitamin A cream at such a young age indicates he knows a thing or two about maximizing his appearance. So I'm thinking either a lot of things are coming together here (adjunct therapies, camera positioning, "squinching" etc), or he employed use of surgical/filler intervention(s) and perhaps wanted to see if his new look passes as natural.

Also re: hard mewing, the guy does say he also mews in a chin tuck AND sleeps on his back in one, too. This person claims he did the same thing I did, started hard mewing while also starting to mew during sleep and then there is no way to tease apart the result. I've never seen a single hard mewing case where you can definitively point to hard mewing being behind the result, because typically these people are face pullers or have a face pulling past, or they do chin tucks etc all day and night, and this case is no exception.

Remember this pain... and let it activate you.

info:
(What I did: • Hard mewing 24/7. I push upwards so hard that the area under my jaw (hyoid) starts burning. Sometimes it's difficult to fall asleep for me as I’m mewing so hard. • Proper lip seal. I keep my lips closed with a slight force. • Proper swallowing (watch mike mew’s video on this) • Gum chewing 20-30 minutes every day. • Chin tucks all the time when I’m alone. • I also work at my body posture and try to stay in good posture while standing and sitting.)

The superimposition in the gif is possibly exaggerating the change on the chin. If you compare his last 'after' picture with this one, the change does not seem as dramatic anymore:

This level of change seems to be in line with the changes jamo experienced:

That is crazy, i did not know fillers can have such a drastic effect on facial structure. These photos can easily pass as hard mewing results

Also the guy posted this video https://imgur.com/a/UXBMl1o so it is definitely not photoshop. I think he had fillers to straighten out his nose and improve his chin

Wait, wait, wait. About the fillers. If they bring such striking results, how come it's not the number 1, go-to method of 'looks-maxxing'? Am I missing something? Why aren't all the incels getting jaw fillers already?

Is the procedure dangerous? Or possibly expensive/

I never use gifs to analyze change, I always use still pictures with land marks to understand whats going on. I only use gifs to share with people so they can better visualize the idea. Looking at his still before and after pictures its clear his chin changed but his lips didn't.

It makes one wonder weather he had work done as well. Maybe that is why he posted such a low quality after picture in his comparison.

The length people go to change their appearance is crazy indeed and you would be surprised how far people and cosmetic surgeons are going to achieve better esthetics. There are people undergoing a modified form of le fort 3 just to look better.

I am not familial with those subgroups, but I can tell you the use of fillers is exploding and not every provider has the skill to pull off this level of work. One thing is certain those people are going to regret their procedures as eventually the filler starts changing shape and later breaking loose and causing inflammation.

What are these fillerse made of? Silikon?

There is a famous plastic surgeon in switzerland who uses patented implants for his surgeries, which slowly "bind" to your real bones and later on actually become bone too. That seems like a nice idea. Obviously its expensive though

No, those were done in Brazil so most likely were made with bioplasty a polymethylmethacrylate particles that acts as permanent filler. The one you see in the picture below was made with a biodegradable filler and only lasts 18 months at most.

Yeah, that's Sailer, the first picture I posted of the women's transformation is from him. He used that bone cartilage onlay on her. It's a great technique for small improvements, nothing close to this filler stuff. It's crazy and going to cause allot of complications.

As far as i know he can make his cartilage any shape he wants. And the improvements from that woman are very impressive, far from small. Do you have any idea how much sailer costs?

Honestly if those fillers just dissapear completely after 2 years without causing any problems, i'd say they are a good alternative to permanent cartilage implants like those from sailer.

I dont know if fillers like that exist though.
