So this is me right now:

I feel like my airways are narrow and I often feel like I cant breathe with my nose and feel im forced to breath with my mouth. I have had a nose surgery to enable me to breath more with my nose and it didnt help much. As you can see I have a reccesed jaw and I think it is causing a narrow airway. Im thinking of going to the doctor. Do you think it is neccesary? And in that case do you think I should go to a general doctor or a dentist/orthodontist? And what should I be applying for.

(I know that my reccesed jaw is probably a cause of my mouthbreathing.)

You appear to have a pretty forward head posture, judging by the second picture. Beginning to work on that is something you can do right now, while deciding what to do for medical treatment. Do you have a front facing photo? That would help us understand what you’ve got going on.

I don’t  think there’s much a general doctor could do for facial structure and airway development. Usually it’s an orthodontist or physiologic dentist who is already experienced in airway growth, probably using an appliance of some sort. A lot of the time they can be found by looking for dentists who treat sleeping problems, as well as looking for graduates of the various training programs, like Vivos or Las Vegas Institute

How old are you?  You chin does look recessed.  However, your nasolabial angle seems good.  It does seem like a CBCT would help.  If you are young, you may be able to manipulate the chin more forward… depending… there’s lots of factors… a big one is the teeth and the ability to move the chin forward.  Do you have any pain of TMJ?  I would at least right now pick up a musical instrument like the saxaphone (not clarinet).  That will help your airway behind your mandible (which may be squished).  A quick test I like to do is to have people sit or stand up… then open mouth really wide and bow head.  If after a few seconds you feel really nautious, I have found that it means the airway behind the lower jaw needs work.  Interestingly, those who mouth breathe don’t usually have problem with this… and I believe it’s because their mouth is open all the time anyway.

Also, try alternate breathing of pranayama (like to YouTube vid in one of my prior posts on this)… try that and see how you feel.  It should be calming.

I say this because as you grow… what you don’t use your lose.  Also, don’t look down on the ground to do homework and rest your chin on your hand… this can keep it back a bit.  If you have to get surgery later… at least your airway will be big enough to handle the change if you keep it big through playing musical instrument.  Some people have to cut their airway to make it bigger.  Younger is more maliable.

I didn’t say he needs surgery.  I said if he needs surgery, to make sure that the airway is developed enough at this stage.  I would be concerned about the nasal area…see what’s going on.  CBCT is very useful.  It is not bad on radiation… Dr. Sean Carlson has more info on this radiation.  He’s kind of an i-Cat person and planmecca was lower/is lower?  Anyway, all the newer stuff is pretty darned low, yet tells us much more.  You can always request a neck guard.

It is theoretically possible that pushing upwards on the maxilla in distinct areas may over time push other palate areas down. However, there is a lot of vetted, good science about nasal airway interventions in existence using appliances.  Yes – I would visit a trusted doctor.  Consults are almost always free and the more educated you can be, the better.

I think you should definitely see a doctor. But despite this, I believe that you need to go to another doctor who you have not yet been examined by, and it is better to go to two or three doctors to get the opinion of different people. For example, a couple of months ago, my friend had a dental operation (wisdom tooth was removed). His doctor told him that this is a necessary operation and there is no chance to save the tooth. He agreed with the doctor’s opinion, because this is still a person who has a medical education and knows a lot about his work. Also, this dentist decided that he needed to remove 1 more tooth. My friend refused and rescheduled the operation a couple of weeks in advance. He decided to consult with https://www.iinsight.biz/ and they helped him save his tooth without removing it.
